POST: JULY 7, 2011 -
I'm sitting on my flight to New Jersey with the biggest competition of my life staring at me straight in the face. Everything about this unusually warm morning feels surreal. I’ve been preparing for this competition over the last year, and it’s so close now I can taste it. I can hear thick New Jersey accents all around me, the smell of my Jan Tana lotion is piercing my senses, and I can't seem to play a single song on my iPod without running my routine over and over again in my head. All of it makes me smile to myself as my heart rate soars through the roof of the plane... READ MORE >> |

Less than four days to go until I step on stage at Team Universe! With every second that passes my excitement builds. Last week was a little difficult, but I made a promise to myself to change my mentality. With that change, my entire outlook toward this weekend has shifted. Out with the negative, and in with the positive! Pure joy, excitement, and determination now fill every muscle of my body! Instead of wanting to throw-up every time I think of my routine; I now can’t manage to wipe the huge ear-to-ear grin off my face as I think about performing on that stage. I am READY!... My body hurts. I hate to start off my latest blog with complaints, but right now I need to vent a little. That’s what I love about blogging. I don’t have to water-down my words anymore like I did when I was in television. I get to sit behind my computer and write about my thoughts. I don’t get emails about what I’m wearing or how my hair looks. There’s no more worrying about who’s watching, who might get offended by what I say, or who may not like me. Back then my job depended on me worrying about things like that. Now, I can tell it like it is... READ MORE >> |

There are less than four weeks to go until Team U is here! As I dive deeper into this sport, I’m starting to notice how competition prep has the potential to take over one’s life if you let it. Social gatherings typically get turned down because, well, not many people seem to understand your eating habits or general way of life for that matter. Weekend trips turn into a big ordeal because it typically takes no less than two hours to prepare... READ MORE >> |

Early last month I entered Max Muscle Sports Nutrition’s Best Back in America Contest; not thinking I had a chance at actually winning the thing. It was an online contest where you had to upload a picture of your back, and write a little story as to why you felt you had the Best Back in America. As every day passed, I was continually shocked by how many people gathered around me and rallied in an effort to get me votes. I felt so blessed, and loved. I’m not talking about a few dozen people... READ MORE >> |

I’m writing this blog while on a flight to California. This is the seventh flight I've taken in just the last week and a half. Last weekend I took a trip to North Carolina to watch my cousin get married. It was a wonderful wedding that reunited me with family I haven’t seen since my Nanny died (mum's mother) years ago. After returning from such a blissful event, I felt a renewed sense of focus in my training. The last couple of weeks have been tough and the wedding allowed me to put things in perspective... As some of you know, writing about my journey to the Emerald Cup was my first experience blogging. I have to admit, it was surprisingly very enjoyable! Writing down my feelings and thoughts, and posting them for the world to see was therapeutic. Needless to say, I felt blogging needed to be a part of the path to my first national competition...

On Friday I took part in the biggest competition of my fitness career, and it was simply amazing! I want to take you back to the week prior to the show, being that it was pretty eventful. After the Vancouver Classic was over the Emerald Cup seemed to approach very quickly and the reality that I was about to compete in it started to sink in about mid-week. The days leading up to the show were a little hectic to say the least. My boyfriend suffered a back injury, and could barely move... READ MORE >> |

I’m only five days away from the biggest show of my competitive career! I can’t believe the Emerald Cup is almost here. This week was a planned break week from boot camp, so I’ve been able to solely focus on training, my diet, and routine. My weight has dropped a little since Vancouver, but thanks to my Coach it is heading back in the right direction. This time around we are preparing for competition a little differently... Wow, what an incredible experience! This weekend a dream of mine came true. I became a Fitness Competitor, and I am so proud. I competed in the Fitness division for the first time at the Tanji Johnson Vancouver Classic. I have a lot to share with you about my first competition of the season. I hope you enjoy reading the novel i wrote... READ MORE >> |

Salt in the refrigerator, silverware in the trash, and eggs in the cupboard. Wait, what’s that burning smell? Who’s cooking tilapia? Ahhh, I am! My diet has officially burrowed a small hole in my brain. The funny part is I’m eating more food than ever! In fact, I’m consuming more than 120 grams of carbohydrates most days which is an amount the “average” human needs to operate. Apparently, I need a few more grams to function at full capacity lol. However, I can say I’m on a competition meal plan that’s working wonders as my physique is spot on... READ MORE >> |

It’s amazing how things can change so drastically from one week to the next during competition prep. Last week was a little stressful to say the least, but this week is turning out to be GREAT! Let’s start with the good news I received from my doctor. My ultra sound came back crystal clear! Phew, that’s one speed bump out of the way. As for my wacky blood results, well, the doctor wants to wait until after the Emerald Cup to retest. As an athlete, my physician thankfully understands how critical these few weeks can be before competition... READ MORE >> |

Everyone has a happy place. Somewhere or something that allows you break away from the madness, and breathe. I haven’t been able to visit my happy place over the last few days because of an injury. Instead of bitching about it, I decided to sit down and write about how thankful I am to have my sanctuary. Many people eat to find happiness. Some take drugs to escape... READ MORE >> |

Wow, what a whirlwind of a week! Being that this is my third blog, and I’ve already introduced myself, I’m planning on getting a little more personal with you. I hope that you will be able to relate to my experiences and my honesty will help you in your own competition prep or fitness journey.
That being said, let’s get back to my crazy week. I finally received my figure suit and fitness outfit in the mail, two small material items that managed to give me a BIG boost in motivation! I LOVE them both!... READ MORE >> |

A little less than six weeks to go until I hit the stage at the Emerald Cup! I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am! I feel like a member of The Jersey Shore (minus the partying, booze, and promiscuity), as GTL seems to be my new motto (gym, tan, laundry). Hmm, maybe I’m watching too much reality TV while I’m eating my chicken and brown rice. People often ask me as I count down the weeks until show time... READ MORE >> |

This year my competition prep includes a 12 week diet. However, my journey can’t be counted in weeks or months. My passion for the sport was born several years ago. To fully understand where I am today, I’ll have to take you back to where I started. My story begins in front of the camera. For more than five years, I worked in the TV news industry. I started at an NBC affiliate in San Diego, and then worked my way up to Central Oregon where I was a news reporter and anchor for three years. Despite building my life around what was turning into a promising career in television... READ MORE >> |
